File Format Size Description
Supporting information QuickTime video file 817 Kb Supplementary Movie 1: 3D-volume rendered time series of water images of a Xenopus embryo from stage ~8 to ~12. Each frame is 55 minutes. The embryo is oriented with animal to the top and dorsal to the right. The animal half is lighter and the vegetal half appears darker. The blastocoel is visible and its shape change through development is evident. In the last five frames of the sequence, the archenteron appears on the dorsal side and pushes the blastocoel ventrally. The epiboly of the animal cap can be seen in relation to the internal changes of the embryonic structure. The color map is shown at the top of the frame and the length of the time bar is 400 μm.
Supporting information QuickTime video file 656 Kb Supplementary Movie 2: 2D-time series of sagittal slices taken from a 3D series of fat images of a Xenopus embryo from stage ~8 to ~12. Each frame is 55 minutes. The embryo is oriented with animal to the top and dorsal to the right. The vegetal cell mass appears brighter and the animal cap darker.
Supporting information MPEG video file 2 Mb Supplementary Movie 3: 2D high-resolution, high speed imaging time series of water images of a Xenopus embryo from stage ~5 to ~12. Images have been median filtered and a color LUT applied, so that the animal cap appears light orange, the vegetal cell mass is black and the marginal zone is dark-orange/red. Images are sagittal with animal oriented to the top and dorsal to the right. Each frame is ca 6:50 minutes. The length of the time bar is 400 μm.
Supporting information MPEG video file 1 Mb Supplementary Movie 4: 2D-high resolution, high-speed imaging time series of water images of a Xenopus embryo from stage ~5 to ~21. Images are gray scale and not median filtered. Initially the images are sagittal and the embryo is oriented with animal to the top and dorsal to the right. After gastrulation, the embryo tilts to the side and the images become transversal, with dorsal towards the right. The archenteron collapse is evident at the end of the sequence. The neural tube, the notochord and the somites are evident. Scale bar: 200 μm.
